The Remaining ‘Mourning Mothers’ Released on Bail

After four days of detainment for 33 ‘Mourning Mothers’ who were arrested in Laleh Park on Saturday, the remaining group of 12 were released on bail at 10:00 pm on January 12.

They were all in excellent spirits and were comprised of all ages. The youngest was 45 years old and the oldest was 78.

When the judge in the Revolutionary Court set his eyes on these mothers, he got mad at the officer for the case and said: “What kind of a judgment can I issue for a group who are as old as my mother and grandmother?” The officer replied: “Trouble-makers are trouble-makers. It has nothing to do with age.”

Iran’s security police has confiscated their mobile phones, with a promise of returning them after 10 days when the investigation is complete.

Mothers who were returning from Evin prison described the spirits of the mothers at Evin as excellent and they said that they are only worried because their families are behind walls waiting.

Ordinary prisoners who were released the night before were saying that they have a great relationship with protest prisoners and they help each other out.

Iranians are in high spirits right now. The Mourning Mothers and their friends and relatives were all holding hands and raising their arms while chanting, “Political prisoners must be freed.”

The Mourning Mothers thanked those who had gathered in front of the prison for expressing their support without fears of retribution by the government and were risking arrests.

Families of political prisoners expect all Tehran’s compatriots to not leave them alone behind the walls of Evin prison and to go to Evin prison any night they can.
